The exercise focused on information processing mechanisms and coordination in SAR operations in the waters of Lan Ha Bay of Cat Ba Islands in Cat Hai Special Zone, Hai Phong city.

In the simulated scenario, Coast Guard Region 1 activated the system for receiving and processing SAR information, promptly coordinating with the Maritime SAR Coordination Center Region 1 to carry out rescue measures for distressed crew-members.

The forces from the two units deployed SAR Ship 411, coast guard ships 4036 and 2007, along with coast guard boat 719, to quickly maneuver to the scene of the incident. Thanks to seamless and effective coordination, the combined forces successfully rescued the crew, extinguished the fire on the fishing vessel, and handled subsequent procedures according to the plan, ensuring absolute safety for both personnel and equipment.

As part of the exercise, the two units also conducted outreach activities, providing guidance on survival skills at sea and raising awareness among fishing ships’ owners in the area about the fight against illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing.

Senior Colonel Luong Cao Khai, Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff of Coast Guard Region 1, stated that this drill aimed to enhance coordination capabilities, command and operational skills, and professional competence of officers and personnel engaged in maritime search and rescue.

He emphasized the importance of effectively managing and utilizing weapons and technical equipment to ensure mission readiness under any circumstances and to respond effectively when real incidents occur.
