Border Guards receive medical supplies to cope with COVID-19 epidemic
PANO – The Department of Politics of the Border Guards received 15,000 face masks, 1,000 litters of antibacterial liquid and 500 hand sanitizers from the Khoa hoc & Doi song (Science and Life) Newspaper on March 11.
The gifts, sponsored by the Khoa hoc & Doi song Newspaper and the Vietnam Safelife Ltd. Co., are to help the Border Guards cope with the outbreak of the novel coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19).
Speaking at the event, Asso. Prof. and Dr. Dang Vu Minh, Chairman of the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations (VUSTA), applauded the military’s efforts in preventing the disease.
He said that the military has mobilized thousands of troops and prepared facilities to welcome Vietnamese citizens returning from China and other epidemic-affected countries. He noted that Vietnam is located near China, where is the epidemic sourced from. Therefore, the border guards are the key force in preventing illegal immigrants and undertaking border control to deal with the epidemic, he added.
For his part, Senior Colonel Nguyen Van Hung, Head of the Department of Political Education and Information of the Department of Politics under the Border Guard Command, said that the border forces are strictly maintaining their missions at border gates and walking trails crossing the borderline to prevent illegal immigration.
In addition, border troops also disseminated information related to the epidemic and asked them to follow regulations of disease control, he stressed.
On behalf of the commanders of the Department of Politics under the Border Guards, Senior Colonel Hung expressed thanks to the leadership of VUSTA and the Khoa hoc & Doi song Newspaper for their gifts, which will support the Border Guards to better perform the epidemic prevention.
