VPA rescuers search for victims, help locals
PANO - The SAR mission of the Vietnam People’s Army (VPA) on February 19 continued searching for earthquake victims in Cebrail commune of Antakya, the capital of Hatay province, Turkey.

At each location, the mission agreed search plan with local rescue force. They used service dogs and engineering detection equipment to search suspicious places for the signs of victims.
At a building collapsing on Fatih Cd street, the mission located a place with dead victims and handed the site to local rescue units.
As of February 19, Vietnamese military rescuers helped the host country position 15 places of earthquake victims, including two with signs of survivors.

Apart from their SAR duties, Vietnamese rescuers actively assisted two local families in moving their property from Rifaioglu apartment building on Bahceli Sk to the safer settlement place. Both families luckily escaped from their apartments when the devastating earthquake happened.
Also on February 19, Chief of the Vietnam Border Guard Command Lieutenant General Le Duc Thai sent a letter of encouragement to both handlers and service dogs of the Service Dog Team of Vietnam to Turkey.

In the letter, General Thai acknowledged outcomes achieved by the team over the past days. He asked the team to continue promoting sense of responsibility, observing military discipline, ensuring absolute safety during task implementation.
