Vietnamese, Lao units sign bilateral patrol agreement
PANO - On January 12, the Border Guard Command of Vietnam’s Quang Binh Province organized the signing of a bilateral patrol agreement with the Military Command of Laos’ Khammouane Province.
Since the initial agreement signed on May 7, 2013, the Quang Binh provincial Border Guard Command and its counterpart from Khammouane province have conducted 136 joint patrols involving 1,468 officers and soldiers. Among these, one patrol at the command level involved 27 officers and soldiers, along with 15 local leaders.

To meet the requirements of border management and protection in the new context, the two sides discussed and agreed on several cooperative measures for joint patrols. Key areas of focus include exchanging information on border security, combating destructive activities, inspecting border markers, monitoring cross-border trails and related infrastructure, and jointly responding to potential situations. Both sides also agreed to establish a multi-level bilateral patrol mechanism to enhance collaboration in managing and protecting the border while fostering peace, friendship, cooperation, and development.

On the same day, a delegation from the Military Command of Khammouane province, led by Political Commissar Major General Somkhaen Appasone, visited and extended greetings to officers and soldiers of the Quang Binh provincial Border Guard Command on the occasion of the lunar New Year (Tet) Festival of 2025.
