Vietnamese, Chinese defense ministers pay tribute to martyrs
PANO - Within the framework of the 10th Vietnam - China Border Defense Friendship Exchange, on March 19, Defense Minister General Phan Van Giang and his Chinese counterpart Sr. Lt. Gen. Dong Jun, together with delegations from both countries, visited the Vietnam - China People’s Friendship Park in Dongxing city, China.
The two defense ministers and delegates laid fresh wreaths at the Vietnam - China People’s Revolutionary Martyrs Memorial and observed a minute of silence in tribute to the fallen.
Standing in front of a memorial stele at the memorial site, the delegations expressed deep emotion for the revolutionary martyrs. The stele bears words: “The Vietnamese people are forever grateful to those who sacrificed their lives for the national salvation cause and for the friendship among nations, and vow to study and carry forward the courageous tradition of the martyrs: Steadfastly advancing under the glorious banner of socialism and communism.”
The stele was built to commemorate 29 revolutionary martyrs from Vietnam and China who heroically sacrificed their lives in the joint struggle against colonialism. This is one of the first sites for patriotic education in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. The Eastern and Western sides of the stele are engraved with the names of nine Vietnamese martyrs and 23 Chinese martyrs. The reverse sides presents the historical context of the two countries fighting side by side and praises the friendship between their peoples.
Below are some images of the martyrs-tribute paying at the Vietnam - China People’s Friendship Park.
