The joint patrol mechanism has contributed to maintaining security and order in the Gulf of Tonkin, enhancing the capacity to respond to non-traditional security challenges, while strengthening mutual trust and understanding between the two navies in particular and the two militaries in general, thereby further contributing to the sound Vietnam - China friendship.

Approved by the two defense ministers, naval ships of Vietnam and China formed up and departed Fangcheng Port for the joint patrol and joint training mission in the Gulf of Tonkin. Good weather conditions at sea during this period are favorable for the patrol.
