The Vietnamese Deputy Defense Minister emphasized that over the past time, the cooperation between Vietnam and the U.K. has been actively promoted by leaders of the two countries. He said that the visits of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh in November, 2021 and National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue in June, 2022 to the U.K. were of great significance, contributing to consolidating the strategic partnership between the two countries and strengthening cooperation and mutual support in various fields, in which defense cooperation is an important component.
Regarding defense cooperation, on the basis of the memorandum of understanding on bilateral defense cooperation inked in 2017 and other cooperation agreements, the defense ministries of the two countries have effectively carried out cooperation in fields of mutual concern and individual strength, such as delegation exchange, Defense Policy Dialogue, training, U.N. peacekeeping operations, defense industry, and human trafficking fight.
In the field of human trafficking prevention, the Vietnam Border Guard Command has effectively maintained cooperation with the U.K. Border Agency within the memorandum of understanding on cooperation in human trafficking fight reached in November 2018.
Over the past time, the two sides have held various experience sharing events and refresher courses and worked together to compile a manual on preventing and fighting human trafficking for the Vietnamese border guard.
On behalf of the Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense, Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien thanked the U.K. Home Office for cooperating with and supporting Vietnam in this field.
The Vietnamese Deputy Defense Minister expected that the U.K. will continue its cooperation with Vietnam to effectively carry out the memorandum of understanding on human trafficking fight. He also suggested the maintenance of cooperation activities, including delegation exchanges, training courses, and information and experience sharing.
General Chien hoped that the U.K. side will cooperate with the Vietnam Border Guard Academy in developing training materials on human trafficking prevention and assist Vietnam in training and English teaching.

For his part, Mr. Matthew Rycroft highlighted the fruitful cooperative relationship between Vietnam and the U.K. over the past time. The U.K. official said that the visit was to further strengthen this relationship. He evaluated that the Vietnam - U.K. relationship has continuously developed in all fields, including defense cooperation.
The U.K. Home Office Permanent Under-Secretary expressed delight at the outcomes of cooperation between the U.K. Home Office and the Vietnamese Defense Ministry, especially between the U.K. Border Agency and the Vietnam Border Guard Command in preventing human trafficking.
Mr. Matthew Rycroft acknowledged and highly appreciated the great efforts of the Vietnamese Defense Ministry and functional agencies in combating human trafficking and affirmed that the U.K. Home Office is willing to foster cooperation with the Vietnamese Defense Ministry in this field.
