The ceremony was co-chaired by Senior Lieutenant General Hoang Xuan Chien, Deputy Defense Minister and member of the Vietnamese Governmental working group on vaccine diplomacy, and Chinese Ambassador to Vietnam Xiong Bo.

In his speech, the Chinese diplomat said that the vaccine donation aims to help the military and people of Vietnam overcome the pandemic. He added that the donation also demonstrates the sentiments of the Chinese military in particular and the Chinese Government in general to the military and people of Vietnam.

On behalf of the Vietnamese MND, Sr. Lt. Gen. Hoang Xuan Chien thanked the Chinese side for the meaningful gift amid the complicated developments of the pandemic in the world.

Vero-Cell COVID-19 vaccine produced by Sinopharm is included in the World Health Organization (WHO)'s emergency use listing. It has been used in over 70 countries, including many Southeast Asian countries.
