Major General Pham Manh Thang, Director of the Vietnam Department of Peacekeeping Operations, congratulated the Engineering Company Rotation 2 for their outstanding performance and safe return, while commending its four members who volunteered to continue their duties with the Engineering Company Rotation 3.

General Thang emphasized that the Engineering Company Rotation 2 demonstrated its good competence, was always dedicated to assisting local people in Abyei, and praised by the United Nations Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA) and international community. This has helped promote the image of Vietnamese blue berets and Vietnam as a friendly and responsible nation.
Reportedly, during their term in Abyei, the team repaired 59km of main roads connecting Sudan and South Sudan through Abyei and opened 337km of new patrol roads during the dry season to ensure security in the area. In addition, the team also participated in humanitarian efforts as requested by the UNISFA, while promoting Vietnam’s culture and traditions to the international community and local residents.

The U.N. commended the Engineering Company Rotation 2 for their contribution to the mission’s infrastructure reconstruction phase. They also pioneered the mission’s “Smart Camp” project. The Abyei Minister of Education thanked Vietnamese engineering troops for helping repair houses and roads, and carrying out charitable activities.
Notably, Major Le Van Si of the Engineering Company Rotation 2 was specifically applauded for helping complete the Ghana camp construction project ahead of the rainy season.
* The same day, at Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City, the Vietnam Department of Peacekeeping Operations, in coordination with Military Hospital 175, held a ceremony to welcome home the L2FH5 after completing their duties in South Sudan. Colonel Mac Duc Trong, Deputy Director of the Vietnam Department of Peacekeeping Operations, presided over the event.
The L2FH5 was deployed to the U.N. Mission in South Sudan in July 2023. The hospital treated nearly 2,400 patients, collaborating with local civilian and Level-one hospitals within the base. At the same time, the L2FH5 was on standby for emergency situations, ensuring medical support for events in Bentiu, and actively participated in training programs while conducting training for its staff. The unit organized two American Heart Association (AHA) First Aid courses and drowning rescue training and ensured absolute safety of its personnel and equipment, highly evaluated by the mission, Bentiu base commanders, and friendly units.
In his speech, Colonel Trong highly appreciated the L2FH5 for outstanding achievements during its task performance, emphasizing the good impression of Vietnam and its people it left on international friends. The hospital’s members were also requested to soon stabilize the life and work and be ready to take on new tasks.
