In his speech, Major General Robert Affram, UNISFA Force Commander, underlined the profound significance of the International Day of U.N. Peacekeepers and expressed his gratitude to foreign peacekeepers deployed in Abyei for their tireless efforts.

The UNISFA Force Commander highly appreciated the dedication and sense of responsibility of military, police, and civilian units from foreign countries in upholding stability, delivering humanitarian aid, and building trust among communities in conflict-affected and impoverished areas.

He attributed UNISFA’s achievements to the solidarity and effective coordination among peacekeeping personnel from all over the world, who embody the ideals of peace and the spirit of international mission. “Together we continue to write the story of hope for Abyei,” he stated.

Lieutenant Colonel Pham Van Hao, Commanding Officer of the Engineering Company Rotation 3 of Vietnam and Head of the Vietnamese peacekeeping force at UNISFA, said that it is a great honor for every Vietnamese serviceman to take part in U.N. peacekeeping operations. He added that this celebration not only commemorated those who sacrificed for peace but also served as a reminder of the sacred responsibility to contribute to a safer and more stable world.

The International Day of U.N. Peacekeepers is held annually to honor peacekeepers’ bravery, professionalism, and dedication in maintaining peace and protecting civilians. It also commemorates those who sacrificed their lives during peacekeeping missions.

Internationally, many activities have been held to mark the International Day of U.N. Peacekeepers on May 29. These include commemoration ceremonies, medal presentations, exhibitions, seminars on peace and development, and other meaningful activities.
