On the morning of September 9 (local time), Senior Lieutenant General Alvaro Lopez Miera hosted an official reception for Senior Lieutenant General Phan Van Giang and the visiting Vietnamese defense delegation at the Cacahual Mausoleum in the Cuban capital city, Havana.

After the reception, General Giang led the Vietnamese delegation to pay tribute to and laid flowery wreaths at the monument to General Antonio Maceo, a Cuban National Hero.

At the meeting between the two delegation, General Alvaro Lopez Miera warmly welcomed the high-ranking Vietnamese military delegation led by General Phan Van Giang to Cuba, saying that the visit is a good demonstration for the traditional good and loyal friendship between the two armies in general and two general staffs in particular. The host also said that the visit would contribute to cementing and promoting bilateral defense cooperation between the two countries.

For his part, General Giang reiterated that the Vietnamese Party, State, people and Army always remember the valuable support and wholehearted and loyal friendship that the Cuban Party, Government, people and the Cuba Revolutionary Armed Forces reserved for Vietnam in the past and at present. All Vietnamese leaders, people and armed forces always keep in mind President Fidel Castro’s saying “For Vietnam, we are ready to shed our blood,” showing the great support of the Cuban Party, State, people and armed forces for the Vietnamese people at the most difficult time of the Vietnamese national liberation war.

In the afternoon, member of the Politburo, member of the State Council and Minister of the Cuba Revolutionary Armed Forces, Senior Lieutenant General Leopoldo Cintra Frias, leading a high-ranking delegation of the Cuba Revolutionary Armed Forces, had talks with Senior Lieutenant General Phan Van Giang and the Vietnamese military delegation.

At the meeting, which took place in a warm, sincere and trustworthy atmosphere, the two sides agreed to further exploit the two sides’ potentials to expand bilateral cooperation and experience sharing to consolidate the traditional friendly good relations between the two countries in general and the two militaries in particular.
