At the meeting, the Vietnamese general underscored that Vietnam highly appreciates Singapore’s position, role and active and proactive engagement in strengthening multilateral cooperation, especially in the ASEAN framework, making contribution to enhancing internal unity and raising ASEAN’s role and position in the region and the world.

General Chien hoped that Singapore will bring into play its role and boost the implementation of the ASEAN Community’s goals together with Vietnam and other ASEAN member states.

General Chien took this chance to thank the Singaporean government for providing Vietnam with COVID-19 vaccines via the COVAX Facility and expressed his hope for the country’s continued support in the time ahead.

Affirming that the Government and Ministry of National Defense of Vietnam always treasure the strategic partnership between the two countries, the deputy defense chief emphasized that the partnership is viewed as a foundation to develop the bilateral defense cooperation in an intensive, expansive and practical manner.

He highly praised the outcomes of the bilateral defense ties, which have been beefed up over the past time, particularly in delegation exchanges at all levels, especially the high-ranking one, training, effective maintenance of dialogue mechanisms, and exchanges of young officers, among others.

Deputy Defense Minister Hoang Xuan Chien voiced his hope that the Singaporean diplomat will continue to pay attention to and promote the implementation of the cooperation fields that the two sides agreed on at the recent 12th Vietnam - Singapore defense policy dialogue such as delegation exchanges, cooperation mechanisms, training, cooperation between arms and corps and in medicines, close consultation at mechanisms and multilateral forums, especially ASEAN-led mechanisms. These will help strengthen the bilateral defense cooperation and continue to boost the strategic partnership in the coming time.

For his part, Ambassador Jaya Ratnam emphasized the strong development of the two countries’ relationship over the past nearly 50 years on the basis of mutual respect and trust, especially since the two countries lifted the bilateral ties to a strategic partnership in 2013.

The Singaporean diplomat said that the defense ties are among the important cooperation fields of the bilateral relations. He confirmed that in his post, he will do his utmost to bolster the bilateral relations in all spheres, including defense.
