The Italian deputy defense minister is in Vietnam to participate in the 80th anniversary of the foundation day of the Vietnam People's Army, the 35th anniversary of All-people’s Defense Festive Day, and the Vietnam International Defense Expo 2024.

During the meeting, Gen. Chien expressed his gratitude and highly appreciated the participation of the Italian deputy defense minister, the delegation of the Italian Ministry of Defense and defense companies at the Vietnam International Defense Expo 2024. The Vietnamese deputy defense minister emphasized that in recent years, the relationship between Vietnam and Italy has been continuously strengthened and developed in both breadth and depth across various fields. High-level exchanges and meetings have been maintained regularly, and cooperation in economics, trade, culture, education, and local cooperation has been promoted.

Gen. Chien affirmed that in defense cooperation, based on the fourth Defense Policy Dialogue in July 2023, the bilateral defense cooperation continues to be advanced and has achieved positive results in such areas as training and defense industry. The Vietnamese deputy defense minister suggested the two sides continue to focus on enhancing and implementing cooperation in such areas as exchange of delegations at all levels, especially high-level one; effective utilization of consultation and dialogue mechanisms; cooperation in training, U.N. peacekeeping operations; exploring opportunities for advancing defense industry cooperation, addressing the consequences of war, cybersecurity, military medicine, and other fields in line with each side’s needs and conditions.
On this occasion, through Deputy Minister Cremnago, Gen. Chien sent his regards to the Italian Minister of Defense, expressing the hope to welcome the Italian Minister of Defense on an official visit to Vietnam in 2025.
For his part, Deputy Minister Matteo Perego di Cremnago expressed his sincere thanks to the Ministry of National Defense of Vietnam for the warm welcome and hospitality extended to the delegation. On behalf of the Italian Ministry of Defense, he congratulated the Ministry of Defense of Vietnam on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the foundation day of the Vietnam People's Army, the 35th anniversary of the Whole-people Defense Festive Day, and wished the Vietnam International Defense Expo 2024 a great success. The Italian deputy minister expressed confidence that through this meeting, defense cooperation between the two defense ministries will continue to develop in a more effective manner. He agreed with the proposals made by tthe Vietnamese Ministry of National Defense and pledged to actively cooperate with Vietnam in implementing the cooperation contents.
