Defense leader receives Malaysian Defense Attaché to Vietnam

The host congratulated the guest on his appointment as Malaysian Defense Attaché to Vietnam. He noted that Vietnam-Malaysia relations have developed fruitfully in recent years. He added that the elevation of bilateral ties to a comprehensive strategic partnership during Party General Secretary To Lam’s visit to Malaysia in November 2024 marked a new chapter in their relationship.

Extending congratulations to Malaysia on assuming the ASEAN Chair in 2025, Gen. Chien expressed confidence that the country would successfully fulfill this important role.

On bilateral defense cooperation, the Vietnamese official said the partnership had been enhanced and yielded positive results. Key highlights included delegation exchanges at all levels, effective maintenance of dialogue mechanisms, cooperation in personnel training and maritime search and rescue, regular naval visits, and close consultation, coordination, and mutual support in multilateral forums.

Gen. Chien called on the Malaysian officer to continue advancing the agreed defense cooperation programs. Accordingly, both sides will maintain exchanges of delegations, especially at high levels; uphold dialogue and consultation mechanisms; strengthen cooperation between military branches and among young officers. Additionally, they will expand collaboration in the defense industry, logistics, counter-terrorism, disaster response, and search and rescue operations. The two sides will also continue to work together in U.N. peacekeeping efforts and support each other in ASEAN-led multilateral forums and mechanisms.

Gen. Chien affirmed that the Vietnamese MND would facilitate the Malaysian Colonel's work in Vietnam, contributing to the further development of the comprehensive strategic partnership and defense ties in a more practical and effective manner.

For his part, Colonel Zunaidi Bin Hassan expressed his honor in taking on the assignment in Vietnam. He pledged to build on his predecessor’s achievements and work closely with relevant agencies of the Vietnamese MND to implement the agreed cooperation programs, thereby advancing bilateral defense relations to new heights.
