The guest offered sympathies to the Party, State and people of Vietnam and the family of the late Party leader over the great loss, an hailing the attention that the late leader had paid to the development of the Vietnam-New Zealand strategic partnership.

He affirmed that the bilateral relations have grown based on mutual trust and understanding for nearly 50 years after the establishment of diplomatic relationship, noting his belief that the two countries will continue to assist each other’s development.

Deputy PM Quang thanked the special envoy, and through him, Prime Minister Christopher Luxon and Governor-General Cindy Kiro for extending their condolences to the Vietnamese Government and people over the death of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.

He appreciated the practical assistance that New Zealand has given to Vietnam over the past decades, particularly in plant varieties, hi-tech agriculture and English language training.

He proposed that the two countries expand cooperation to new fields such as climate change adaptation and green growth.
