HCM City okays inland container depot
The HCM City People’s Committee has approved construction of an inland container depot (ICD) in suburban District 9.
Containers are unloaded from a ship in a ICD in HCM City
To be built in public-private partnership mode, the 60ha ICD will cost around 5.8 trillion VND (260 million USD) and be finished by 2019.
It will serve the relocation of enterprises operating in the Truong Tho Port area in Thu Duc district, which will mitigate traffic congestion and environmental pollution in the area.
The People’s Committee has identified Duc Khai Corporation, Tan Hoang Real Estate Joint Stock Company and Tam Binh Real Estate Joint Stock Company as the private sector partners.
The site is on Nguyen Xien street, Long Binh ward, which is only around 10m wide.
Fearing traffic jams there when the ICD opens, the People’s Committee has instructed the departments of Transport and Planning and Architecture and the District 9 administration to widen the street.
