The southern province of Dong Nai has attracted US$2.78 billion in foreign investment in the past 11 months, a year-on-year increase of 6.7 percent and 39 percent more than the target set for 2009.

The provincial Department of Planning and Investment has licensed 29 new projects with a combined capital of US$2.3 billion and 38 projects with an additional capital of US$395.4 million.

In November, Dong Nai granted an investment license to the Malaysian Berjaya Group to build US$2 billion new Nhon Trach city. This is the largest amount of capital to be invested in the province so far.

Also during this month, the province recorded 1,979 newly established private businesses, capitalised at  VND10,311 billion, increasing the total number of private enterprises in the province to 9,900.

Dong Nai now has 978 foreign invested projects valued at US$17.56 billion, 700 of them are currently operating in 21of the province’s 29 industrial zones, employing 400,000 workers.
