The 2009 Golden Dragon Awards began on August 25 to honour businesses with foreign direct investment (FDI) for having overcome the challenges and made significant contributions to Vietnam’s economic development over the year.

This is the ninth event of its kind and will include prizes for businesses that have done very well, the best products, the most favoured services, the best style of doing business, and the businesses that excel in environmental protection, social activities and human resources training, said Nguyen Thi Van Anh, a member of the organizing board.

The selections will be based on individual votes cast in editions of the Vietnam Economic Times and on the website www.gda.com.vn, suggestions from provincial departments of planning and investment, credit indices released by the State Bank of Vietnam and a panel of judgers at the event.

The awards have received increasing support from a number of ministries, sectors and businesses because they are in line with their aspirations and the country’s development, said Phan Huu Thang, Head of the Trade Promotion Department under the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
