The competition is expected to see four teams from Vietnam, Australia, Saudi Arabia, and host China. Designed as a preparatory event, the tournament aims to provide valuable international match experience for young players ahead of the AFC U17 Asian Cup 2026 qualifiers, set to begin this November.
To prepare for the tournament, the U16 Vietnam squad is scheduled to gather in mid-May in Hanoi for training in two weeks before departing for China.
The team will include players born in 2009 or later, many of whom have previously joined training camps with the U17 Vietnam squad during its preparation for the AFC U17 Asian Cup 2025.
Among the standout players are midfielders Chu Ngoc Nguyen Luc and Nguyen Van Duong. Chu Ngoc Nguyen Luc started all three matches at the U17 Asian Cup and impressed in central midfield.
Meanwhile, Nguyen Van Duong gained international experience after being subbed in during Vietnam’s 1-1 draw with Japan.
Further updates on the tournament will be provided by the VFF in the coming weeks.
