Under the competition format, the team with the higher total score in each series earns two points, with the first to reach 16 points declared the winner. After a tightly contested start, with the scores level at 6-6 and then 7-7, Huy and Vinh were unable to maintain their momentum in the later stages, eventually conceding a 17-9 defeat to the Indonesian pair after 13 series.

On the Wushu mat, Dang Tran Phuong Nhi secured a silver medal after competing in the women’s southern fist, southern staff and southern broadsword events, finishing with a total score of 29.112 points.

In pétanque, Vietnam defeated Laos in the women’s triples event to advance to the final, where they will face hosts Thailand later on December 15.

Vietnamese swimmers also made a positive start in the pool. Nguyen Huy Hoang topped the qualifying heats of the men’s 400m freestyle with a time of 3 minutes 58.27 seconds. Pham Thanh Bao placed fourth in the heats of the men’s 50m breaststroke but still qualified for the final and is considered a strong gold-medal contender. Pham Thi Van advanced from the heats of the women’s 50m butterfly, while Duong Van Hoang Quy and Nguyen Quang Thuan booked places in the final of the men’s 200m butterfly.
