SEA Games 33: More golds for Vietnam in gymnastics, pétanque
Vietnamese gymnast Dinh Phuong Thanh clinched a gold in the parallel bars on December 12 afternoon, securing the third gold medal for Vietnam’s artistic gymnastics team and the 19th for the country at the 33rd Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Thailand.
Despite an imperfect landing, Thanh delivered a refined and controlled routine to score 12.900 points, outperforming competitors from Indonesia and Thailand to successfully defend the title he won at SEA Games 32. This also marks the 12th SEA Games gold medal of his career.

The pétanque team added another gold thanks to the duo Ly Ngoc Tai and Ngo Ron, raising Vietnam’s gold medal tally to 20.
Later the same afternoon, Vietnam also picked up three silver medals in Taekwondo, Karate and artistic gymnastics.
In the men’s 58kg Taekwondo category, Dinh Cong Khoa earned a silver after a 1-2 loss to Malaysia’s Mahamad. Khoa trailed 4-16 in the first round, fought back to win the second 10-9, but was defeated 12-22 in the decider.
In Karate, Nguyen Thi Dieu Ly claimed a silver in the women’s Kumite 55kg event after a 3-5 defeat to Singapore’s Hafezan Marissa in the final.
In artistic gymnastics, Quynh Nam secured a silver on the women’s balance beam with a steady and composed performance.
Vietnam’s futsal team also put up a 3-1 victory over Indonesia.
