Major General Nguyen Van Gau, Deputy Chief of the General Department of Political Affairs, attended and chaired the event.

The event saw the participation of nearly 1,000 female staff from affiliated units of the Central Military Commission and the Ministry of National Defense.

Accordingly, participants will compete in two events, volleyball and folk dance.

Speaking at the launching ceremony, Major General Nguyen Van Gau affirmed that this is the first time the Board for Women Advancement has organized the Military Women’s Sports Festival. It creates a meaningful playground to improve troops’ physical strength, especially female officers.

Also, the festival is seen as an occasion for female staff to exchange and share experience, contributing to tightening solidarity among participants, raising their combat readiness capabilities, and accomplishing all assigned missions in the new situation, he added.

In order to organize a successful sports festival, Gen. Gau required the organizing panel to make thorough preparations and ensure absolute safety for all participants, while honoring outstanding individuals and collectives.

For athletes, he asked them to strictly observe the competition’s regulations, heighten the fairness, honesty, solidarity and noble sportsmanship, as well as do their utmost efforts to gain the highest results.

After the launching ceremony, the volleyball qualification started. On June 22, the women’s volleyball final took place. On June 22-23, athletes will compete in a folk dance competition.

As planned, the organizers will hold the awarding ceremony of the video clip contest on children care and protection, and violence prevention on June 24.
