Weightlifter Thach Kim Tuan secured the first gold medal for Vietnam with a lift of 282kg. Meanwhile, his teammate Tran Le Quoc Toan bagged silver with a lift of 276kg.

On the women’s side, weightlifter Vuong Thi Huyen pocketed a bronze medal.

The same day, Bui Thi Thu Thao secured a silver medal in the women’s long jump with a jump of 6.36 metres. Olga Rypakova of Kazakhstan won the gold medal with a jump of 6.43 metres.

AIMAG 2017 attracts athletes from 65 countries and territories, including some in the Oceania.

Vietnam sent a 164-member delegation to the event. Vietnamese athletes are going to compete in 14 of the 21 sports of the Games with the aim of winning eight gold medals.
