PANO – A special stamp collection on May 11 was issued by the Ministry of Information and Communications and the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, Vietnam Post Corporation (Vietnam Post) in celebration of the UN Day of Vesak 2019.
Speaking at the event, Deputy Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Thanh Hung affirmed that the UN Day of Vesak 2019 is an important international event in Vietnam, contributing to improving the role of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in the international arena, and helping international friends learn more about the guidelines and policies of the Vietnamese Party and State on religion, as well as promoting images of the country, people, culture, belief and religious practices of Vietnam.
The stamp collection conveys an informatic message honoring the traditional values of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, which has accompanied the country for thousands of years and contributed significantly to the national development and defense cause.
Officially priced at 4,000 VND, the stamp depicts a majestic Buddha statute with a shining Bodhi leaf on its back, implying that Buddhism brings a prosperity and happiness to mankind. There is the image of Tam Chuc Pagoda on it, the 2019 Vesak hosting place, and the dragon model of the Ly Dynasty, when Buddhism was at its peak in Vietnam. Lotus, sky and cloud drawn underneath reflect the harmony of sky and earth, meaning a peaceful life.
