Bac Giang city to host National Cheo Festival 2019
PANO - The National Cheo (Popular Opera) Festival 2019 will open in Bac Giang city of the Northern province of Bac Giang on September 14, as revealed by the Department of Performing Arts under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism on September 11.
The fortnight event, organized in every three years, aims to find out new innovations in arts and propose approaches and operational modes based on the modern trend and real situation of cheo troupes to further develop the Vietnamese traditional music genre of cheo.

According to the organizing panel, the festival has attracted various professional cheo troupes at both central and local levels; most of them are from the North. Sixteen cheo troupes will perform 26 cheo plays with diverse topics and new staging styles .
Highlights of the plays are in praise of the movement “Studying and following President Ho Chi Minh’s moral example”, and the Resolution of the fourth session of the 11th Party Central Committee on building and developing Vietnamese culture and people to meet the sustainable national development requirement.
During the festival, people in the districts of Lang Giang, Tan Yen, Viet Yen, Yen Dung and Hiep Hoa of Bac Giang province will be entertained with performances by the Vinh Phuc provincial Art Theater, Thai BinhCheo Theater, Ha Nam provincial Arts and Culture Center, Hung Yen Cheo Theater and Military Cheo Theater on September 17, 19, 20, 22 and 24.
The Military Cheo Theater brings two newly-completed plays to the festival.
