Vietnam attends first ASEAN-G7 foreign ministers’ meeting
PANO - Vietnamese Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son, on December 12, attended the first meeting between ASEAN foreign ministers and the world's leading group of industrialized countries (G7) Foreign Affairs and Development Ministers in an online format.
During the event, ministers from both ASEAN and G7 nations agreed to foster cooperation in response to the COVID-19 pandemic; promote comprehensive and sustainable recovery; strengthen and stabilize regional and global supply chains; invest in new technologies and innovation to create new momentum for economic recovery and growth; develop digital and green economy; and respond to climate change.

The participating countries also affirmed the importance of maintaining peace, stability, cooperation and prosperity in the East Sea (South China Sea), fully implementing the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC) and soon reach an effective Code of Conduct in the East Sea (COC) in line with international law, including the U.N. Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) 1982.
In his remarks at the event, Minister Son called on G7 countries to provide ASEAN with a broader access to COVID-19 vaccine supplies in a safe, effective and timely manner, as well as vaccine production technologies, contributing to enhancing resilience and self-reliance of ASEAN and the region.
