UK wants to continue ties with ASEAN after Brexit: Malaysian official
The United Kingdom has expressed to Malaysia its wish to continue cooperating with ASEAN following the country’s decision to leave the European Union (Brexit), Malaysia’s Foreign Minister Saifuddin Abdullah has said.
According to the minister, the statement was made by UK Prime Minister Theresa May in her bilateral meeting with her Malaysian counterpart Mahathir Mohamad on September 26 on the sidelines of the United Nations Assembly’s 73rd session in New York.

Mahathir responded to May that the matter would be discussed first with ASEAN before any decision can be made.
The two leaders also discussed measures to intensify bilateral cooperation.
The Malaysia leader asked for the UK’s support in handling issues which hamper the export of palm oil to Europe, stated Abdullah.
