Close to 2,000 households evacuated amid potential floods in Northern Myanmar
Nearly 2,000 households in Kachin State, northern Myanmar, have been evacuated as Ayeyarwady River overflowed above danger mark due to heavy rains, according to the local authorities.
There have been no fatalities so far and rescue operations are ongoing.

The affected residents have been moved to temporary shelters in 30 schools, churches and monasteries across the region. According to media reports in Myanmar, due to heavy rains, more than 1,000 people are trapped in Myitkyina and Waingmaw townships.
The Myanmar Department of Meteorology and Hydrology said on July 1 that the Ayeyarwady River overflowed by about 1.5m above the danger mark in Myitkyina township and is expected to rise by another 60cm in the next two days.
