PANO – A high-ranking Vietnamese military delegation led by Major General Tran Van Minh, Chief of the Policy Department of the General Department of Politics, made a five-day working visit to the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA).
The visit of the Vietnamese military delegation, consisting of representatives of defense agencies and General Departments and Corps under the Vietnamese Defense Ministry, aimed to survey policies and regulations on logistics and technical affairs of the UN and participating nations in MINUSCA.
During the visit, the Vietnamese delegation had meetings with MINUSCA Deputy Chief Aurélian Agbenonci; MINUSCA Deputy Military Commander-in-Chief, Major General Shafiuddin Ahmad; and other MINUSCA high-ranking officials, as well as the Indonesian Sapper Company and representatives of the Serb Level-2 Field Hospital in Central Africa.
At the working sessions, MINUSCA leaders welcomed the visit of the Vietnamese delegation and appreciated Vietnam’s commitment and preparation for its participation in UN peacekeeping operations.
They considered the on-the-spot survey a good, important preparatory step in terms of logistics and technical affairs for its future deployment of a sapper company and level-2 field hospital.
MINUSCA Military Chief of Staff, Brigadier General Jacques de Lapasse also highly valued the performance of the three Vietnamese staff officers at MINUSCA, saying that the Vietnamese officers had been well trained and had their jobs very well. He added that MINUSCA wished to receive more Vietnamese officers.
After meetings and conducting the on-the-spot survey, the Vietnamese delegation had an insight into the overall picture of UN peacekeeping operations and details of specific jobs of individuals and units at a UN peacekeeping mission, as well as the policies, regulations, logistics and technical supplies of the UN and participating nations for peacekeepers.
According to the Vietnamese delegates, the knowledge and information obtained from the visit will help the competent agencies of the Vietnamese Defense Ministry work out appropriate policies and regulations in terms of logistical and technical supplies for Vietnamese individuals and units, particularly a sapper company and level-2 field hospital to be deployed in UN peacekeeping missions.
After the visit to MINUSCA, the Vietnamese military delegation continued their working visit at the UN Headquarters in New York, the USA.
