Head of the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Mass Mobilization Truong Thi Mai made that statement at a meeting with Mayor of Houston Sylvester Turner during her working visit to the city on December 2-3.

The Vietnamese head delegate thanked the city for creating favorable conditions for overseas Vietnamese to live, work and study in the city. She voiced her hope that the city will foster cooperation in energy, healthcare and education with Vietnamese partners and localities. 

For his part, the Houston Mayor said that the overseas Vietnamese community in Houston with many successful people has made positive contributions to local economic development as well as strengthening trade and investment cooperation with Vietnam. He vowed to further support the Vietnamese community to promote people’s living standards so as to make more contributions to Vietnam-U.S. bilateral relations. 

During the visit, the Vietnamese delegation met and talked with Vietnamese cadres and students in Houston and visited Vu Van Le, an outstanding overseas Vietnamese in the city. The head delegate highly appreciated the efforts and aspiration of Le and his family to collect and preserve cultural heritage elements related to Vietnam in different periods of time and hoped that Le would further contribute to his motherland.
